The Giant Kidney and Other Excitement

Ancient crocs, deadly stingers and wandering wild buffalo are the everyday dangers we live with here in the Northern Territory of Australia. But today a new character came to town… the Giant Kidney.

It’s the Gove Peninsula Festival and the whole town turned out to parade down the street and gather at the oval to celebrate… well, I’m not quite sure what we’re celebrating but I guess it doesn’t really matter.

There was a giant truck and grader from the mine to climb over, an art tent for the kids, the fire brigade turned on their hose to cool everyone down and of course… the Giant Kidney. Our 18 month old wasn’t afraid of the wandering bright red organ it was more fascination which culminated with a toddler type attempt to give the Kidney a push to see what happened. Nothing. Perhaps the Kidney was too interested in the Giant Vegetable Man.
